Coneflowers have lowered their heads
but
asters are still in full bloom.
Daisies don't linger in beds
but
snapdragons still take up room.
Warblers have left here in crowds
but
crows are still in full cry.
Swallows don't fly amongst clouds
but
herring gulls still fill the sky.
The furnace has kicked itself on
but
there's still some warmth in the air,
The days of heat have all gone
but
the days of cold are still rare.
October sees nature has fled
but
there's still plenty to cheer.
The bitter cold weather's ahead
but
there's still the rest of the year.
